Nicky Ajose says he can be the man to bang in the goals for Crawley - providing he gets a run in the side.

The on-loan Posh forward began life at the Broadfield on fire with three goals in his first three games but has since fallen down the pecking order.

With Reds struggling for goals and form in what has been a tough November, boss Richie Barker made a failed attempt to bring in another striker before the loan deadline closed last week.

Ajose though is desperate to prove the answer to Reds’ goal scoring problems is already at the club.

“When I’m playing I know I can do a good job and score goals and the results have reflected that,” the 21 year old said.

“Obviously I want to play more games but at the moment I’m not playing so I’m having to be patient.

“Of course as a player I want to play games but it’s a team game so at the end of the day I just have to support the players who are in the side and wait for my chance.

“Results are not going for us right now but hopefully we can win this weekend in the FA Cup and start getting some results to get back amongst the play-offs.”

Ajose is unlikely to feature in this Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Chelmsford City with Peterborough again expected to deny him permission to play.

That leaves Gary Alexander, Billy Clarke and out of favour John Akinde as Reds forward options.

Ajose’s loan period expires on January 1, and although Crawley have the option to make the deal permanent, both the player and manager Barker said no decision had yet beenreached. Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Crewe made it back to back defeats for the first time this season, meaning Reds only win in November was in the FA Cup.

Still Reds stayed ninth in the League 1 table, just three points off the play-offs.

The weekend’s second round tie should provide a welcome distraction to the league, although having knocked out fellow League 1 side Colchester in the previous round, Chelmsford will come to the Broadfield full of confidence and Barker is expected to name a strong team.

One player who remains a doubt is defender Kyle McFadzean. The centre back came off before half time for the second game running and his manager said the exact nature of his virus remained a mystery.

“He went to the hospital earlier (on Tuesday) and we’re now waiting for his results to come back. We don’t know exactly what’s wrong with him, it’s strange because he’s been fine in training but the problem seems to affect him during games.”

“He’s had it for the best part of three weeks now so it’s difficult to say if he’ll make Saturday.”
