Crawley’s Lonsdale Belt holder Michael Alldis is putting together the big-fight game plan which will take Ben Jones a step closer to his world-title target.

Jones meets Paul Truscott for the vacant WBO European super-featherweight title on Saturday, February 16 and the winner could go on to challenge for world honours.

Jones’ manager/trainer Alldis predicts a close fight on a show which also features Mile Oak middleweight Nicky Jenman boxing for the vacant International Masters middleweight title.

Alldis said: “Ben’s fitness levels are high because he had a long spell with Paul Devlin and now we are working on tactics and how to break down Paul Truscott.

“I have have spotted a couple of mistakes watching DVDs and see how Ben can beat him.

“Truscott is a good fighter, has experience and Ben has to work on throwing different shots. He can’t just attack in straight lines, he’s got to come in off the angles and that’s what we will be working on.

“It could go the distance and home advantage could make a difference.

“Ben always pulls a big crowd - he has sold over 700 tickets when he boxed in Crawley before - and they can bring a bit extra out of him.

“The Crawley crowd always spurred me on when I boxed and they can be like an extra hand for Ben.

“The crowd could be key. They can help Ben pull it out of the bag when it gets tough.”

Alldis is also working at Crawley ABC under head coach Paddy Harmey.

Harmey was in Alldis’ corner at the ABA final in 1992. Tickets for the show are available from 07720-045566 and 07798-655375.
