Crawley Town have today released striker John Akinde.
The big forward became something of a colt figure amongst Reds fans, but mostly for the wrong reasons having scored just once in 40 appearances (32 from the bench) in a Crawley shirt.
The former Bristol City player turned down another chance to go out on loan this week when he rejected Cambridge Utd’s and Crawley manager Richie Barker today (Thursday) finally lost patience.
The player’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent and Barker said: “John has turned down several offers to go on loan this season and he has now decided to look elsewhere to re-start his career.
“We thank him for his services to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”
Having added seven new faces to his squad in January Barker is not expected to bring anyone else in before the transfer window closes.
