Reds boss Richie Barker saluted his two-goal striker Jamie Proctor after Crawley Town’s 2-0 win at Bury today.
Proctor scored his first goals for the club in the comfortable victory at Gigg Lane, his first a solo effort in the first half and his second a well placed header shortly after the break. They were his first goals since signing on a free transfer from Swansea in January.
Boss Barker said: “He was a handful for them throughout the whole game. All that has been missing from his game is a goal. I hope people were not starting to doubt him because he has a fantastic atttitude and work ethic.
“The only disappointing thing is that there was no opportunity for him to get a hat-trick.”
Crawley were rarely troubled by a Bury side who started the day six points adrift of safety in League One, while Connor Essam, in his first Crawley start, and Jake Taylor, who joined on loan from Reading on Thursday, both impressed.
Keeper Paul Jones was not seriously tested, but with the Reds in control, Bury did ask a few questions in the final 20 minutes. The pick of their chances falling to Craig Fagan, who failed to hit the target.
“Without being too greedy, we could have won by three or four today, the disappointment is that we didn’t kill them off,” Barker added.
