Three Bridges reduced the gap between themselves and their rivals at the foot of the table to three points following their deserved 1-0 victory at home against Walton & Hersham.

A 26th minute goal by Joel O’Hara earnt the Ryman League’s bottom side the three points in despite scoreline was a one-sided battle at Jubilee Field.

Bridges had several other chances to increase their lead either side of half-time and even had Marcus Elliott goal ten minutes before full-time disallowed for offside.

The game featured the return of the club’s Player of the Year from last season, Lee Carney, who had only made five appearances so far this season because of complications following a badly broken leg which saw him on the sidelines for several months.

The midfield general looked his normal influential self in the middle of the pitch and provided the telling chipped pass to O’Hara which led to Bridges’ goal.

Bridges ended the game as they started, in dominant attacking form and it was a wonder they didn’t score again as Elliott was denied by opposing keeper Audie Matheson-Light.

Elliott Romain and Hassan Nyang both went close with overhead kicks but in the end a single goal proved enough, much to the relief of Bridges’ fans.

The result combined with second to bottom Walton Casuals losing 6-1 to Worthing to give Bridges’ survival hopes a boost.
