A man who was wanted for assaulting an officer in Crawley has been sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment after he handed himself in to police.
Details of Darren O’Donnell, 30, were circulated last week following a shoplifting in Crawley on December 31, during which a police officer was punched in the face.
He handed himself into Crawley police station on Monday January 16 and was subsequently charged with shoplifting, handling stolen goods and assaulting a police officer. After pleading guilty at Mid Sussex Magistrates’ Court the following day, he was sentenced to jail for the assault charge. There were no separate penalties for the other two offences.
A police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the media for assisting us in publicing Mr O’Donnell’s details. As a direct result of this he handed himself in and is now behind bars for the crimes he committed.”
