Bridges are safe from relegation after finishing with a whimper after suffering a nightmare preparation for the game delayed on the M25.

Their team coach was delayed for almost an hour because of an accident on the M25 that actually involved Bridges player Williams Peauroux and his family!

Fortunately Peauroux and his family were all K after a lorry hit their car, which was half an hour ahead of the rest of the team, and, although the match referee allowed the kick off to be delayed by 15 minutes.

Tim Rivers fired just over as he connected with Romain’s low cross, and Grimstone made a great tip over to keep out Adam Woollcott’s shot.

Whitstable took a 62nd minute lead when Hassan Nyang couldn’t clear sufficiently, and Michael Everitt scored with a shot on the turn. And it needed a great save by Grimstone at James Morrish’s feet to prevent Town from doubling their advantage.

An ambitious lob by Ellis Hooper went close and Bridges seemed to have snatched a point when an inviting low cross by Dean Carden was bundled in by Joel O’Hara. But two minutes later Nigel Brake was adjudged to have fouled James Everitt as the ball was heading away from goal, and the Whitstable substitute steered the spot-kick wide of the despairing Grimstone.

News that Walton Casuals had lost 1-0 at Merstham meant that Bridges finished three points clear of their relegated rivals.

Unused subs: Howard, Jemwa.
