Ifield made a great start to the season with a comprehensive 109-run victory away to Glynde.
Australian overseas player Clayton Caltsounis and Raza Ali took five wickets each as Ifield dismissed Glynde for 95.
The emphatic win earned Ifield a maximum 30 points.
Skipper Russ Jacob was in confident mood when he won the toss and decided to bat first in drizzly conditions.
He said: “We were confident in our own ability and went in despite the poor conditions, knowing we would be able to bat well and then bowl out Glynde, who are good side in this division. Everyone chipped in and it was a really positive performance.”
But it was Glynde who made the better start and Ifield openers Raza Ali and Chris Plaister soon found themselves back in the changing room with only 15 on the board.
New signing Mike Norris made a good 63 stand with Paul Clifford, both scoring 41 each.
Greg Barton combined well with Caltsounis and hit a-run-a-ball 35 including 6 fours and a six.
Jack Groves (29) and Caltsounis (33) both looked in good form and continued taking the attack to the Glynde bowlers with a quick 39 runs off just 5 overs were added before Caltsounis became Hobden’s third wicket of the game when he was caught by Priddy for 33.
Glynde needed to score at 5 an over to win the game and a strong start was important but opening bowlers Caltsounis and Raza kept things tight and after 6 overs with 13 on the scoreboard Burrows was out LBW to Ali for 7.
Caltsounis was causing real problems for the batsman and scoring off him was proving especially difficult and Glynde captain Dominic Shepherd was next out clean bowled without scoring.
A score of 34 for 2 became 42 for 3 when Priddy was also bowled by Caltsounis and Glynde were looking in trouble but at the other end opener Chris Stanyard (48) was batting solidly.
Ifield hope to take this strong start into the home game against Pulborough this Saturday, starting at 1pm.
