Ifield produced another good team performance to win away at Middleton by 59 runs and consolidate fifth place in the table.

Skipper Russ Jacob won the toss and decided to bat first but Ifield didn’t make the best of starts and with only 24 on the board Raza Ali and Tom Wragg were already out.

Ed Sykes and Greg Barton progressed the score to 40 before Sykes was caught for a patient 20.

Jack Groves and Barton then put on a further 44 runs for the fourth wicket before Barton was caught by Jones off Willway for 43.

With the score on 95 Groves was caught at gully by Hansford to leave the visitors five down but Clayton Caltsounis and Paul Clifford then put on an excellent 57 runs for the sixth wicket and took Ifield to 152 at which point Caltsounis was out falling just two runs short of 50.

Good lower order contributions from Clifford (19), Dileepa Abeyrathna (20) and Jacob (14) took Ifield to 202 for 8 and then the rains came forcing the players from the field for an early tea at which point Ifield declared.

The Middleton reply started strongly with Ben Hansford was caught in the deep by Puttick off Caltsounis for an aggressive 62 runs off 53 balls.

The home side’s middle order were unable to build on the strong start and wickets fell at regular intervals with only Willway (29) and Davies (14) able to reach double figures as Middleton crashed to 143 all out.

The wickets were shared between Caltsounis, Jacob and Clifford. Ifield host St James next week at Ifield Green.
