‘What’s Up Doc’ is a health column in association with Spire Gatwick Park, your local private hospital, which gives you the opportunity to ask questions regarding general health and wellbeing.

Answers are provided weekly from our specialist consultants at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital. If it’s a long-standing illness or simply a worry which you would like to get off your mind then we would like to try to help.

Having had haemorrhoid problems for a while, I have just come back from travelling with my partner from Sri Lanka, my bowel movements have been very loose and irregular. How can I go about this checked?

Anonymous, West Sussex.

We can certainly help you here at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital by offering you an initial consultation with one of our gastroenterologists or general consultants. This appointment is to discuss the symptoms you are experiencing with a specialist, in order for the consultant to make their recommendations for treatment. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

We have a number of consultants here who perform colonoscopy procedures, and you can choose who you would like to see:

Gastroenterologists

• Dr Azhar Ansari

• Dr Timothy Leigh

• Dr Gary Mackenzie

• Dr Jonathan Stenner

• Dr Sameer Zar

General surgeons (could also discuss treatment of haemorrhoids)

• Mr Tim Campbell-Smith

• Mr John Grabham

• Mr Neil Smith
