At a time where we still have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq – and when our government is making budget cuts to our defence department – UKIP does not believe that another conflict is in the best interests of the British people.
Crawley has seen its share of soldiers formally from the town, not return to tell the tale having given their lives for freedom in another country. It is time that the UK government took care of the British people, including our troops and addressed the issues that the UK people currently face.
Youth unemployment, immigration, housing, the national deficit, EU Funding, the NHS and Welfare issues to name a few – these are the things that the UK government should be concentrating on as these are the issues that are affecting our people.
We went to war in Iraq on the basis of Weapons of Mass Destruction – without evidence. IF the Syrian government are now using chemical weapons, as is being claimed, then proof of this should be obtained and a strategic approach to dealing with the Syrian government should be utilised. Rushing head first into military action is not the right approach.
Ironically, Syria is a member of the United Nations – an organisation that was created in 1945 to maintain international peace and security – which is also funded by the member states, of which the UK is one. This organisation is huge – yet seems to have very limited ability to impact upon conflict that affects human rights – such as the situation in Syria.
We are proud of our troops, and would like to see the government concentrate on giving serving and wounded soldiers proper support when they return home instead of relying on brilliant charities such as Help for Heroes and more locally, Help our Wounded, to do it for them!
