Crawley Down Gatwick gained a battling 0-0 draw against sixth-placed Ramsgate on Tuesday night.

Although they could not find the back f the net, it was an encouraging display for Anvils fans following on from their 2-1 victory on Saturday over local rivals Redhill.

Alex Cathline supplied fellow striker Luke Medley who struck the side-netting, while the Anvils’ first corner from Karl Beckford on 22 minutes found striker Medley but his header was too high.

For the Rams, Ian Pulman broke loose down the right and evaded Jordan Johnson only to find his cross put over by the bar by James Everitt.

Down gradually took control with several close encounters in the Ram box.

Stefan Cox left defenders in his wake then ripped one across the face of goal that had goalkeeper Darren Hawkes scrambling to touch over.

The Anvils finished the half on top with a Chris Breach header going close and more lung bursting runs by Cox.

Down carried on from where they had left off in the second half, with Bradley Lewis having his cross taken by Hawkes, then a corner by Beckford found Max Hustwick whose header also found Hawkes. Cox supplied Luke Medley who headed over the crossbar.

But for all the pressure the Anvils just could not find the key to unlock the Ramsgate defence.

The Rams then had their turn to open up the Anvils with a Pulman header taken by Kieron Thorp, and a free-kick by Ben Laslett being charged down, on the hour yet another Ram build-up led to Tom Chapman finding the side-netting.

A Charlie Holness foul led to Everitt testing Thorp again, followed by midfielder Ben Laslett breaking through only to find Thorp.

It was a bad day for Pulman as another chance went begging.
