Three Bridges academy’s under-19 side beat Whyteleafe 3-1 under the guidance of new manager Simon Wormull.
The former Lewes and Crawley Down Gatwick boss came out of ‘retirement’ to coach Bridges’ under-19s last week.
In an effort to get a game played for the new manager and his assistant Lee Carney, this game was moved from the Jubilee Field Stadium to the all-weather 3G area at Broadfield.
But the wind and rain started in full fury just before kick-off and abated as the final whistle was blown by referee James Harding. Everybody deserves credit for completing the game.
Both teams took a while to settle on the synthetic surface, but gradually Three Bridges began to put a few passes together.
Captain Adrian Todd had a glorious chance after 15 minutes but his shot was saved by the diving Whyteleafe goalkeeper.
The pressure was maintained and after 25 minutes Mitchell Casselman opened the scoring for Three Bridges by putting away a close range shot.
Whyteleafe started to fight back and were rewarded when after 32 minutes Zak Ekeke put the ball in the net to level the score.
With a double substitution on 35 minutes and another at half time, Three Bridges came out even more determined to win in the worsening weather.
Todd was leading by example and it was his shot on 70 minutes which put Three Bridges ahead.
Whyteleafe were now beginning to struggle in the conditions and it fell to Todd to close out the game.
His long looping shot over the head of the goalkeeper found its way into the Whyteleafe goal to make the final score 3-1.
For his leadership and two goals, Adrian Todd was nominated by Wormull as Man of the Match.
