Sorry Anvils find Chips too hot to handle in one-sided defeat

In-form Chipstead made light work of Crawley Down on Saturday, as the Anvils continue to struggle at the wrong end of the Ryman South table.

Chipstead started with intent, with Ben Hammond having his early sighter deflected for a corner.

An early reply by Anvils’ Rishi Nankani warmed the hands of home keeper Milan Stojsavijevic.

The home side then started to turn the screw and went near on 13 when a break from midfield by Dan Moody let in Will Turl, but his shot was hacked away. Then came Moody with a shot saved by Anvil custodian Luke Badaili.

The Chips were getting on top with the dangerous Moody having his free kick taken by Badaili, then moments later hitting the upright.

After all their huff and puff the Chips finally broke through on the half hour when Warren Gladdy seized on a defensive mistake to set up speedy winger Stefan Joseph to prod home.

On 43 minutes the home team virtually put the game to bed with Moody setting up Joseph to nudge home his and his team’s second of the match.

The second half was as bad as it could be for the Anvils with Chipstead in full flight.

First Mark McCloud set up Turl who missed, then Joseph brought out the best from Badaili.

The chances were becoming more frequent as they opened up the porous Anvils back line, with Gladdy setting up the lumbering Turl to notch the Chips’ third on 63 minutes.

For the Anvils it was damage limitation with centre backs Luke Medley and Martin Dynan working overtime in keeping the rampaging Chipstead out.

The second half featured just a couple of Anvil attempts on goal which just about showed up the futility of the Anvils as an attacking force.

For Chipstead it was becoming a walk in the park with leading goalscorer Moody supplying the fourth on 65 minutes, then celebrating in true style diving into the nearest pool of water.

For Crawley Down, the remainder is best forgotten. The Anvils are now without a win since November.

Anvils: Badiali, Ozga (Bigood), Mitchell, Medley, Dynan, Sargent, Storey, Sinclair -Smith, Tait,Nankani, Cousins.
