Defender Kyle McFadzean joked that he was to blame for Matt Tubbs missing a penalty against Stevenage, because for once he didn’t watch him take it.
The defender said: “For once I turned round and didn’t watch Tubbsy take his penalty and he missed so I won’t do that again.”
On-loan striker Tubbs made amends with an injury-time equaliser after Reds had been hammering on the door in a much-improved second half.
McFadzean was unhappy with his own display in what he admitted was a poor first-half showing from Crawley, who were lucky to only trail by one goal at half-time, Bira Dembele having put Boro ahead with a first-half header.
Centre-back McFadzean got the vital flick on for Tubbs to slam home a 92nd minute leveller and he said: “I thought first half we were a bit sloppy and I was really bad.
“But second half I thought we come out, the gaffer made two changes and it made a difference and we should have gone on and won 4-1 or 5-1.
“I just thought we might score because we had that many chances, we never stopped creating them and near the end I managed to get an assist.
“I saw Procs (Jamie Proctor) but not Tubbsy, but he gets the ball and puts it in the back of the net.”
