First half goals by Aston Worsfold and Toni Smith earned Wasps a spectacular 2-0 victory over league leaders Maidstone.

Suzy Davies broke free from defence after only five minutes and played in Faye Rabson on the left whose initial shot was parried for Aston Worsfold to follow in and put away.

Oozing confidence after the early breakthrough, Wasps made Maidstone look vulnerable with every attacking move.

It was no surprise after a few hosts spurned chances that once again Davies pushed forward and combined with the hardworking Jade Simmons who rode a tackle well before supplying on 33 minutes Toni Smith who made it 2-0 with a calm finish.

The hardworking midfield play and distribution of Alexandra Lebrato and Worsfold stopped Town being able to get any real foothold in the game, and clearly rattled, made changes at the break.

But no real threats were made in the second half as Wasps’ goalkeeper Colleen Donovan had a quiet afternoon.

The midfield of Kelly Poynton, Simmons and Rabson continuing to press in search of a third which would have come but for the visitors’ goalkeeper and Wasps’ lack of composure in front of goal.

Wasps: Donovan, Stephenson (Capt), Davies, Simmons, Tibble, Walker, Lebrato, Poynton (Halliday 65), Rabson, Smith (Pou Garcia 75), Worsfold
