Firstly I have an apology to make. In last week’s column I omitted to mention The Band of Brothers. I met them at the poppy sewing event in the Memorial Gardens.
The Band of Brothers do a lot of good working to rehabilitate ex-offenders back into society and help them to become valuable members of society as they change their lives around.
The seed planting was for the ex-offenders a small but significant step on their road to rehabilitation.
Saturday was ‘Learn to Play’ day and I had an opportunity to receive a free lesson in playing a musical instrument courtesy of The Music Company at their shop on Northgate Parade.
My instrument of choice was the ukulele and I managed to play four chords reasonably successfully.
For me that was quite an achievement so I think it may be some time before I am ready for the world tour!
Later the same day I was guest of the Mayor of Milton Keynes at the football match between MK Dons and Crawley Town.
A great win for the Reds to ease any relegation fears. Perhaps the Mayor should formally attend all matches in the future if it means the team always wins.
My last event of the week was to attend a meeting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where we heard a talk on the theme of hope. Hope can be a force that can drive a person to carry on even when the odds are stacked against them.
Sometimes it may be all we have to keep us going.
This was very much the case when I met a young woman who had been evicted without notice by her unscrupulous landlord. She is now homeless through no fault of her own and can only hope that her future is brighter than currently is the case.
Let us all hope she soon finds some suitable place to live.
