I don’t know how many of you know this but until last Friday Crawley boasted World Champions. I refer to the Black Dog Boozers who were the World Marbles Champions.
Every Good Friday, at the Greyhound Pub, the World Championships take place and the Black Dog Boozers defended their crown but sadly they were beaten in the semi-finals by the eventual winners 1st MC Erzgebirge from Germany who regained the world title they had relinquished the previous year.
In all 14 teams took part and a very good day was had by all not least because of the fine weather and great hospitality.
The Germans intend to come back next year to once again defend their crown.
On the same day there was a bucket collection at the Crawley Town football stadium before the club’s home game.
This raised much needed funds for my charity, Outreach3Way.
I don’t yet know how much exactly was raised but I would like to say a big thank you to all who made any contribution and a big thank you also to the volunteers who held the buckets on the day.
But whatever was raised and the fact that Crawley won made it a win-win situation all round for me.
More money was raised for my charity by the generosity of staff at the Town Hall who held a raffle. Again a big thank you to all who took part and also to those who generously donated prizes.
There was more charitable giving at Lb1 last Saturday evening.
Staff at the Crawley branch of Tesco.com held an Oscars Night which was an opportunity for the management of the company to recognise and applaud the efforts of the staff, efforts which had helped to make Tesco.com - Crawley the best in the country.
They have the figures to prove it.
Another example of where Crawley leads the rest follow.
At the same time the evening raised funds for two very worthwhile causes, Help for Heroes and Diabetes UK.
So another thank you is in order to all who contributed in making the evening such a success for as they say ‘Every Little Helps’.
