So, the elections will soon be upon us –’yawn’, I hear you say, but not this time because there will now be an opportunity to make a real change.
This is not just a change of party but also changes to the way our political system works.
Far too many in Westminster and locally are hampered from doing the right thing because they are under the control of the whips or there is too much spin or ulterior motive.
All this does is frustrates those in politics because they can’t represent the electorate properly.
UKIP have a system that takes away the whip and allows councillors to vote freely so that means voters would actually get better representation.
Of course there does have to be unity so before presenting anything to anyone you iron out any issues and make the amendments needed until everyone is happy to be onboard, that’s called compromise.
This will actually create a better climate to do business in and because there would be no ulterior motives just direct sensible solutions to problems that would make the decision making process rapid and so a greater amount would be achieved.
Although councils are responsible for an awful lot more could be done even if it’s just having the right staffing levels.
Many people at the moment have all sorts of problems including public sector workers because they are ordinary people too, but the government cuts staffing levels and gives minimal pay increases.
We expect them to be diligent and efficient in their duties with an ever-increasing workload but at the same time not give them a pay increase for years and short-staff their deparments.
All this does is creates the job even harder for our NHS staff, teachers and even Crawley Borough Council staff to name a few.
