CRAWLEY Town’s directors have promised to give Steve Evans the money to buy a proven goalscorer.
The Reds’ coffers have been boosted by an estimated £2million with the sales of Tyrone Barnett and Matt Tubbs in the past month, and in a statement released by the club today, the Reds’ board said money was there for manager Evans.
It said: “Funds are available to bring in new players and to secure Championship-standard players if manager Steve Evans thinks it is necessary. If Steve identifies a proven goalscorer, the club is perpared to break its transfer record.”
In the statement the club also sought to clarify its reasons for the transfers of Tubbs and Barnett, who had scored more than 30 goals between them this season. “If either Matt or Tyrone had said they wanted to stay we would not have accepted the offers - we asked the players first,” the statement added.
“The players managed to quadruple their salaries and could pay off their mortgages.”
