CRAWLEY Borough Council says work to repair two lifts damaged by vandals at the town hall car park could cost thousands of pounds.

Earlier in the month the Observer reported how two lifts were damaged after vandals rode on top of lift cars at the car park in Exchange Road in two separate incidents on Monday April 2.

A spokesman for the council branded the act ‘unbelievably stupid’ and said the behaviour could have resulted in a fatality.

Now the council says the lifts are still out of order and could cost thousands to repair.

A spokesman for the council said: “Police are continuing with their investigations.

“The lifts are still not safe at the moment. It is going to cost a significant amount to repair them.

“It could cost thousands of pounds because of the damage. There is extensive damage to the doors.”
