DAVID Hunt insists former manager Steve Evans must not be forgotten for his contribution to Crawley’s promotion success.

The Reds won promotion to League 1 yesterday with a 1-0 defeat of Accrington, and Hunt revealed Evans had been sending the Crawley players good luck messages since his departure for Rotherham at Easter.

Right back Hunt, who arrived from Brentford in January 2011, said: “Everyone has contributed over the season, there are loads who come and go, from people like Tom Eastman, to Matt Tubbs and Tyrone Barnett. I know it is a cliche, but it is a team game. It is not just those who did it today but everyone involved. Even Steve Evans has to have a big say in it too. He assembled the squad and got us to where we were.

“I have had good luck messages every game since he has gone. People don’t know him, they have a perception of him. I have nothing but praise for him, he gave me a chance whenever I was fit, got my career back on track and got us winning stuff. He has got in touch with all the lads and he cared. This is what he put together.”
