POLICE say they have made several arrests after a blaze broke out at a disused school in Furnace Green this afternoon (Thursday June 7).
Emergency services were called to the North East Professional Centre, formerly Robert May School, at around 12:50pm.
Sussex Police said officers have arrested several boys on suspicion of arson. A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “No other premises were affected and nobody was hurt. Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of the fire and deliberate ignition has not been ruled out.
“We have made several arrests of young boys who were in the area at the time, on suspicion of arson, but enquiries are at an early stage.”
The road had to be closed as smoke billowed from the building and crews battled to control the flames.
