Former Birmingham City defender Mat Sadler has today joined Crawley Town.

The 27 year old passed a medical at Broadfield this afternoon and becomes Reds boss Sean O’Driscoll’s second summer signing following the capture of goalkeeper Paul Jones.

The club also expect to announce another new signing later today (details here when they arrive).

Sadler made 46 appearances for Walsall in League 1 last season, and will add vital experience to the Crawley side following their promotion from League 2 last season.

The defender made more than 50 appearances for Birmingham City, where he started his career, before joining Watford in 2008 for £750,000.

He spent three seasons at Vicarage Road, making 30 appearances, and spent time on loan at Stockport County, Northampton and Shrewsbury Town. He has also represented England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level.
